Royal Day at Versailles

Your day at Versailles starts by a guided visit of the Great Royal Apartments. Lunch is taken in the restaurant "La Flottille" which faces the Grand Canal.
The afternoon will continue by guided visit of the Trianon (vast mansion-style lodges where Louis XV and Louis XVI liked to work and retire from court life) and a discovery tour of the Queen’s Hamlet.

Versailles Guided Tour

Versailles Vision

In 1661, on the orders of Louis XIV, building started on what became the most prestigious residence among the courts of Europe. It was designed by architects and decorators who are still famous today, such as Le Vau, Mansart and Le Notre for the gardens.
For you to fully appreciate this excursion, we propose during the bus journey, a brief look into the various facets of court life in the Versailles Palace during the reign of Louis XIV, the « Sun King ». This audio commentary will make your unguided visit to the Palace and gardens more easier.

A drive down the Normandy highway leads us to Giverny, a charming country village. It was in Giverny that the painter Monet chose to settle with his family. It was there that he indulged in his love of nature, in his art, his garden and his photography. In Giverny, we will visit Monet's home, his garden and workshop, all authentically restored. As we stroll in the exquisitely coloured gardens and admire the pond with the famous Japanese bridge, we enter Monet's world where art and nature become one. Entrance ticket included.

Chartres

After a drive through the Beauce, we arrive in Chartres for a guided tour of the cathedral. This masterpiece of gothic art is a UNESCO listed "World heritage". The 12th and 13th century stained-glass windows constitute the largest collection in France. You will be able to admire the famous "Chartres blue". Today, the cathedral is still a major spiritual centre of Christians and there are many pilgrims.
Free time for a walk in the old city before returning to Paris.

Less than one hour is necessary to reach by minibus the city of Chartres. You will begin your discovery tour of the city by a visit with audio-guide of the Cathedral. The day begins with a visit to Barbizon, a charming village that was popular with landscape painters Millet and Rousseau and the writer Stevenson. Then we go through the forest to the Château de Fontainebleau which was the favourite residence of the kings and emperors of France for eight centuries. An audio-guided tour inside the castle will be followed by some free time in the gardens. Then off to Vaux-le-Vicomte, Nicolas Fouquet's masterpiece which inspired considerably Louis XIV when he built the Palace of Versailles. After lunch on site (included) an audio-guided tour of the mains rooms of the castle. The day ends with time to stroll freely through the gardens and the carriage museum.

Castles of the Loire

Duration: 12hrs
An excursion to give you a taste of royal splendour and life in the grand style since the time of the Renaissance. Your day in the "Garden of France" begins with a guided tour of Chambord, the largest of the Loire Castles, built in grandiose style by Francois 1st to accommodate his hunting parties. Access to the terraces is by the famous double spiral staircase said to have been designed to Leonardo da Vinci. Lunch in a restaurant typical of the Tours region.
After lunch, a tour of Cheverny, still privately owned along with its original 17th century furnishings.
Finally, Chenonceau - the elegant "Château aux dames" built over the River Cher - and its gardens.

Normandy & Landing Beaches

A drive through Normandy takes you to Bénouville where you will visit the Pegasus Memorial . It has been designed as a museum to help visitors understand of the Battle of Normandy and the famous « Pegasus Bridge » . Then you travel along the coast road past the Landing Beaches : Sword, Juno and Gold as far as Arromanches , where you'll see the ruins of its artificial harbor (built by the Allied Forces in less than 15 days). Lunch is served in a historic 13th century farm. The afternoon begins with a visit to the Pointe du Hoc, then to the American cemetery at Saint Laurent.
