a major spiritual centre for Christians and there are many
pilgrims. Free time for a walk in the old city before returning
to Paris.

Your day in Burgundy will start with the guided visit of the
medieval Château de Bazoches located in the surroundings
of Vézelay. When they left Vézelay for the Holy
Land on the Third Crusade, King Philippe-Auguste and Richard
the Lion Heart were the first important guests to stay in
this castle. Bought in 1675 by Marshal de Vauban, the founder
of Civil Engineering, he carried out many modifications and
transformed it into a military garnison. The present owners
are descended from the Marshal's eldest daughter, and, amongst
the rich furnishings, carefully preserve many mementoes of
their famous ancestor (armour, bed-chamber, office, library).Continue
to Vézelay, the eternal hill, village classified by
UNESCO as one of its cultural world heritage sites: short
guided-visit of the basilica dedicated to Saint Mary Madeleine,
centre of Romanesque architecture and sculpture. Free time
to browse around the village before lunch (included, except
drinks) on site. In the early afternoon, following the Serein
river, we are heading for the prestigious vineyard of Chablis.
This light and dry white wine has farfetched origins, going
back to the Roman empire… It's the capital of the "Basse
Bourgogne" (Lower Burgundy) vineyards. Visit of cellars
and wine tasting session.
